Onondaga County, NY.

Be it remembered that heretofore upon the petition of William A. Bentley one of the executors named in the last will and testament of William Bentley, late of the town of Lysander, in said county, deceased, for that purpose, to the Surrogate of said county, a citation was duly issued in this matter, which citation with the proofs of service thereof were therafter duly returned to said surrogate, together with a consent in writing of the heirs and next of kin of said deceased, that the proofs of said will be taken forthwith, and which said petition and citation, with the proofs of service thereof, and also said consent are now on file in the office of said surrogate.

And therefore the last will and testament of the said William Bentley, deceased, with the proofs thereof were produced and are as follows; viz;

"Now all men that I William Bentley of the town of Lysander of the county of Onondaga of the State of New York do hereby order, publish, and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following, namely I firstly will and bequeath to my beloved wife Hannah the all and proffits of all my real and personal estate which may remain after improving and cultivating or keeping the same in as good repair as it now is for the benefit of herself and children for the rest of her natural life.

Secondly, I will and bequeath to my oldest daughter, Betsy Mariah Bentley, the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars to be paid in one year from the decease of her mother and to my second daughter, Hannah Gemima Bentley, I will and bequeath the sum of four hundred dollars to be paid in one year form the decease of her mother. I further will and bequest that her mother provide and make a good bed and bedding in addition to the above legacy.

Thirdly, I will and bequeath to my three sons, Lorenzo Bentley, Edward Bentley, and George Bentley all my real and personal estate not otherwise disposed of which may remain after paying what debts may remain against the estate at my decease and the above legacies after the decease of their mother to be equally divided between them. Provided always and expressly understood that the above legacy to my youngest son George Bentley is made and bequeathed on the express conditions that he shall remain with his mother until he is twenty one years of age, if she shall live so long, and faithfully and kindly assist her in working said estate, but in case of his neglect and refusal to stay and work as aforesaid and shall leave his mother then in that case I will and order in lieu of the above legacy, my two sons Lorenzo Bentley and Edward Bentley shall pay to my said son George Bentley the sum of four hundred dollars on his becoming twenty two years of age. And

Lastly, I will and order my beloved wife Hannah shall have the sole use and control of all my household furniture together with all the beds and bedding during her natural life, with full power to make such division thereof among the children when she shall have done with the same as she shall deem just and equitable.

And I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Hannah and my oldest son William Augustus Bentley executrix and executor to this my last will and testament.

Lorenzo BENTLEY was born on May 5, 1823. He died on May 19, 1850 in Lysander, New York. He is listed in the will of his father:

"...Thirdly, I will and bequeath to my three sons, Lorenzo Bentley, Edward Bentley, and George Bentley all my real and personal estate not otherwise disposed of which may remain after paying what debts may remain against the estate at my decease and the above legacies after the decease of their mother to be equally divided between them.
