settled first in Dorchester and then Lancaster, Mass.
Genealogy of the Chisholm Family written by William Chisholm in 1914, and tracing
back the family history to AD 1254.
==================================================================
JEREMIAH1 ROGERS, whose parents are not known, was one of the first settlers
of Lancaster, Mass. He married Mehitabel Pierce, daughter of John and Mary Pierce.
She was born probably in Dorchester, and probably about 1630, as she had three
children to whom her father left legacies in his will in 1661. When Indians,
in Feb. 1676, burned all the buildings in Lancaster except the church and one
house, all the inhabitants who were not killed or captured fled to Dorchester.
Among the refugees were Jeremiah and his family, and he died there Sept. 26,
1676, probably in the small pox epidemic which had broken out. Lancaster records
say Abiah Rogers, widow of Jeremiah, died at Dorchester, Jan. 10, 1678. She
and two of her daughters, Abigail and Bathsheba, died of small pox the same
month. As the birth and death records of their children in Lancaster all read
child "of Jeremiah Rogers and Abiah his wife," that must have been
another name for Mehitabel.
Jeremiah Rogers of Salem, wheelwright, Ichabod of Lancaster, cordwainer,
and Jehoshaphat of Topsfield, tailor, conveyed their interest in lands of their
father, Jeremiah Rogers of Lancaster, to Edward Phelps, May 12, 1710.
Samuel Trescott and Margaret, his wife, one of the daughters of Jeremiah
Rogers, late of Lancaster, deceased, convey to Edward Phelps, land purchased
of Abiah Warren of Boston, widow, one other daughter of said Jeremiah Rogers,
May 21, 1710 (Middlesex Co. Deeds, vol. 15, p. 261).
